“I’m a proud adoptive mom of two little boys who are siblings through foster care. I feel very lucky that I’ve had the opportunity to experience motherhood in a different way as a single parent.”
Kylene is the Director of Recruiting Services at Caltech. Her journey through motherhood and adoption as a single person drew her to volunteer with Wayfinder Family Services.
“I wanted to be involved with an organization that supported foster awareness and foster care.”
Kylene was introduced to Wayfinder through an old friend. When asked how she manages parenting two young boys, her work, and volunteering, Kylene laughs. “I’m one of those people where you’re either all in or you’re not.”
Kylene is eager to help build a stronger community for foster parents. “The truth is, being a foster parent is challenging. And there are not a lot of resources for foster families.”
“You’re caring for these children and love them. And the whole time you’re navigating a process… where you may or may not keep those children. So I think individuals interested in foster care should be supported. And they need advocates to navigate the system.”
“Nothing can happen without a community.”
Kylene is glad to be part of the Impact Council. We’re a group of like-minded individuals who want to be part of the organization — people who care deeply about the organization.
“I’m just happy to know these individuals and be a part of an organization that does this work. I want to continue to advocate for foster care and the individuals and families that want to pursue it. I encourage people to do it even though it’s a challenging road. Because there’s a strong need in the world and in our local communities.”
