Other Ways to Leave a Legacy

Bequests are for everyone. That is why bequests are one of the most popular types of legacy gifts. You do not need to be wealthy to invest in future generations of children and families at Wayfinder.

All you need are a few sentences in your will or revocable living trust. If you’ve already prepared your will, your attorney can easily include Wayfinder Family Services as a beneficiary in a codicil.

You can add the following sample wording to your will or trust or ask your legal advisor to do so:

I bequeath to Wayfinder Family Services/Junior Blind, a 501(c)3 organization with tax identification number 95-1977659, a gift of:

$ __________(insert dollar amount), or

___________ (insert percentage) percent of my estate, or

the following real property located at ________________________ (insert address of real estate), or

the following (bank, stock, life insurance, IRA) account: ____________, or

the rest, residue and remainder of my estate.

Leave the world a better place by naming Wayfinder Family Services as a beneficiary of certain assets or accounts you own. A beneficiary designation is as easy as filling out a form.

Retirement Account

Name Wayfinder Family Services as a beneficiary of all or a portion of your IRA or other retirement account. Your loved ones will pay taxes on distributions from your retirement plan, but retirement assets will transfer to Wayfinder without any income or estate tax. This means 100% of your gift is available to change the lives of future generations.

Life Insurance

You can designate Wayfinder as a beneficiary of all or a percentage of your life insurance policy. You may donate a policy you already own or buy a new policy naming Wayfinder as a beneficiary. The funds that Wayfinder receives from your insurance will be excluded from your taxable estate.

Donor Advised Fund

Consider naming Wayfinder as a beneficiary of all or a portion of your donor advised fund, known as a DAF. With a few clicks online, you can add Wayfinder as a beneficiary and indicate the percentage that will support our crucial work. The assets in the account will pass to Wayfinder tax free. By designating the charity or charities to receive the balance in your DAF, you guarantee that the funds will go to the nonprofits of your choice, not those selected by the organization administering your DAF.

Bank or Investment Account

You can opt to make Wayfinder the “pay on death” beneficiary of all or a percentage of a certificate of deposit, bank account or brokerage account.

With a charitable gift annuity, you can support Wayfinder Family Services and receive a fixed lifetime income. Charitable gift annuities are easy to establish and have many benefits:

An immediate income tax deduction for a portion of your gift.
Lifetime income for you, paid quarterly or annually. A charitable gift annuity pays a higher rate than a bank CD or money market account and, once established, the rate never changes. A portion of each payment is tax-free.
Reduced capital gains tax on the increased value of your investment if you fund your charitable remainder trust with appreciated stock. A charitable gift annuity also eliminates all gift and estate taxes associated with the funds you give Wayfinder.

Retained Life Estate

Donations of real estate, such as a personal residence, vacation home, apartment building, commercial property or land, bypass the capital gains tax. Plus, you can retain the right to live in your personal residence for the rest of your life while gifting its ownership to Wayfinder Family Services after your lifetime.

Charitable Lead Trust

A charitable lead trust allows you to provide your loved ones with an inheritance while making a significant charitable gift to Wayfinder Family Services through your estate. Income from the trust flows to Wayfinder, typically for a set number of years, after which the assets in the trust are distributed to your heirs.

Charitable Remainder Trust

With a charitable remainder trust, you can support Wayfinder and receive income each year for the rest of your life from assets in your trust. Depending on your preference, your income can be either a variable or fixed amount. After your lifetime, the remaining principal in the trust goes to Wayfinder.

Benefits of a charitable remainder trust include:

An immediate income tax deduction for a portion of your gift.
Increased income when you give to a trust designed to pay out more than you now earn on the assets you will contribute.
Reduced capital gains tax on the increased value of your investment if you fund your charitable remainder trust with appreciated stock. A charitable remainder trust also eliminates all gift and estate taxes associated with the funds you give Wayfinder.
