Wayfinder’s Transition Services is thrilled to offer an in-person summer option for youth who are blind or visually impaired. This option is open for youth 16-21 years old (up to 22nd birthday).

STEP into the workplace

July 7—August 4: Four Weeks to Workplace Readiness

  • Week 1: Assessing Strengths & Exploring Career Fit
  • Week 2: Workplace Skills & Expectations
  • Week 3: Finding & Applying for Opportunities
  • Week 4: Interviewing with Mentors and Employers

AT A GLANCE
Four-week program held in-person* on Wayfinder’s main campus in Los Angeles, fostering workplace readiness for youth who are blind or visually impaired through:

  • Skills assessments, classroom presentations, guided discussions, small group exercises, individual assignments and guest speakers
  • Structured practice of targeted hard skills and soft skills
  • Group and 1:1 sessions Weekend mobility field trips to employer sites
  • Program includes dormitory stay, meals, field trips, and seven days per week of instruction.

All students will be required to follow Wayfinder’s COVID safety protocols. *Both in-person and fully virtual participation options are available Interested?

THE WAYFINDER CAMPUS

Participants who are 18+ years old will reside in Wayfinder’s Davidson Program for Independence residential dorms:

  • Secured buildings with newly upgraded HVAC filtration systems
  • Furnished single-occupant rooms
  • Open outdoor spaces designed for accessibility and mobility
  • Computer/assistive technology labs, medical office and large conference rooms
  • Access to public transportation

WAYFINDER’S EXPERIENCED STAFF

Wayfinder’s Transition Specialists, Certified Orientation & Mobility Instructors, ATACP Certified Assistive Technology Instructors and Program Director are trained in the “Putting Your Best Foot Forward” curriculum and offer a combined total of over 40 years of lived and professional experience in the field of visual impairment and pre-employment skills.
