Melanie O’Mea Smith

Melanie O’Mea Smith joined Wayfinder in 2024 as vice president of visual impairment/intellectual and developmental disabilities services. In her role she oversees Wayfinder’s Hatlen Center for the Blind, Davidson Program for Independence, Child Development Services, Recreation Programs, Adult Services for those with blindness or visual impairment, Special Education School, Group Homes and the Older Individuals who are Blind program.

Melanie has experience with blind rehabilitation services, serving as an orientation and mobility specialist, as well as occupational therapist. Specializing in program development, leadership, and business growth, she has over 17 years of experience working with adults and children with disabilities and is currently a licensed occupational therapist. Prior to joining Wayfinder, Melanie was a regional director of business development for Kindred Rehabilitation Services, as well as Vice President of 365 Glacier Payments. Melanie received her bachelor’s degree in communication with an emphasis in public relations from San Diego State University, a master’s degree in special education with an emphasis in orientation and mobility from California State University, Los Angeles, as well as a master’s degree in occupational therapy from Colorado State University.
